Ooty, officially known as Udagamandalam or Ootacamund & abbreviated as Udhagai, is a hill station in the Nilgiris district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located close to Coimbatore and Mysore, the locals call it Queen of Hills and used to be the summer capital of Madras Presidency. The area came under the rule of East India Company at the end of 18th century. During British time, the preparation of chocolate and tea began and till now the people of Ooty have maintained it.
