The Goodness of Amla Murabba

Indian Gooseberry, Malacca, Amla, or Amalaki in Sanskrit meaning nectar of life, is a citrus fruit found in the Indian Subcontinent. Amla holds high importance in Indian diets, recipes, dishes, and tradition. Amla tree is medium to small in size, with greenish-yellow flower. The fruit is near spherical, light greenish-yellow, quite smooth, hard & shiny in appearance, with six furrows. These berries ripe in autumn and are harvested by hand. The taste is sour, bitter & astringent, and it is quite fibrous. Amla fruit is eaten raw or prepared into various dishes, such as Amle ke Achaar and Amle ka Murabba, where murabba is a sweet dish made by soaking berries in sugar or jaggery syrup, until they are candied.

Eight times more vitamin C than an orange, twice the antioxidant power of acai berry, and around 17 times that of a pomegranate, Amla is truly a superfruit. In Ayurveda, amla is known to cure a ton of ailments, be it common cold, cancer, or infertility.
