Besan Laddoos are one of the most liked Indian sweets of all time. Children’s favourite, these Ladoos pack a ton of health benefits as well. All we need is chickpea or gram flour (Besan), pure desi ghee, cardamom, and fine sugar to make it. This simple yet rich dessert adds more to all your joyous occasions, festivals, and get-togethers whether it is Holi, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi or Janmashthmi. Especially during Ganesh Chaturthi, Besan Ladus are the most famous offering to the god. It is known that Lord Ganesha loves Laddus and Modak more than any other kind of sweet. Mithai are the most popular delicacy which is offered to the deities in India. Indian Mithais are vibrant in colour, shape and size, and there is something for everyone. In Maharashtra, people love to mix Rawa or Semolina, with Besan to give it and extra crunch. These extra crunchy, super savoury laddos are called Rava Besan Laddu, and they are delicious.
These round Meethai balls are the simplest to make. Flour is roasted with ghee on low flame, and then sugar is added to bind it in the shape of a ball. Adding cardamom, nuts, dry fruits, and raisins is optional. In some regions, the laddoos are garnished with finely chopped almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pistachios, to give it a rich and superior look. However, I personally prefer these plain for the authentic roasted Besan flavour. My Nani (Maternal Grandmother) makes it every year during Diwali, and I enjoy it so much so that it makes my mom jealous of how good her mom is. Her way of cooking and the love she pours for her family is unparalleled.
People have this misconception about sweets being a bad influence. But here comes the Besan Laddu which is actually good for your health no matter who consumes it. Even for people with diabetes, the sugar-free or artificial sweetened Besan laddu are widely available. The chickpea flour is good for your heart, as it contains soluble fibers which keeps your heart healthy and cholesterol under control. Besan is one of the best home remedies to control diabetes and one can occasionally indulge in the delicacy. Besan is widely used to fight allergies and it also helps in weight loss as it burns the calories faster. Eating Besan Laddu helps in skin tightening and natural glow. Besan laddus are so healthy that they are frequently featured in the famous Indian animated cartoon Chhota Bheem, as “Tun Tun Mausi ke Laddu”. Be it festivals, or just satisfying the sweet tooth, Besan Laddu is surely the sweet snack one can get for friends, family, loved ones or themselves.
